When To Visit & How Long To Stay
While there’s never a “bad time” to visit the islands of Hawaii, there are some sweet spots on the calendar to take note of.
January is peak humpback whale season, and if you visit during this time, a kayaking tour for an up close and personal viewing of these magical creatures is a must.
The sun shines somewhere on the islands almost everyday, but the lowest chance for rain and the best weather is April, May, September, and October.
Right after Thanksgiving but before Christmas is perfect for fewer crowds and more palatable pricing.
Taking the flight duration and time difference into account, it’s best to plan on one week minimum. However, if you plan on visiting more than one island, 10 nights is a great starting point.
What to Know: The Highlights
Since Hawaii is a U.S. state, no passports are needed!
Yes, you do need a rental car. While it’s easy to think “islands are small and walkable” that is not the case in Hawaii. In fact, the Big Island of Hawaii is nearly the same size as the state of Connecticut. Renting a vehicle makes exploring these beautiful islands much easier and more accessible.
If you want an all-inclusive resort experience, Hawaii is not the destination for you. There are no all-inclusive style hotels or resorts – and for good reason! The point of visiting Hawaii is getting off the hotel property and exploring nature, enjoying local eats, and everything in between.
There are 4 main islands for tourism: Maui, Kauai, Oahu, and the island of Hawaii, and they all offer incredibly different experiences! From towering waterfalls, volcanic spires, and active lava flows – there’s more to Hawaii than luaus and flower leis.
Hawaii is a well rounded destination for every type of traveler: couples, groups, solo, families, beach lovers, hikers, foodies, and more.
When to Begin Planning
For the best experience, you should reach out at least 6 months in advance of your desired travel dates but 9-12 months is most comfortable for us. Demand for Hawaii is high – some of the best restaurants even book up 6 months in advance!
Why You Need An Advisor for Hawaii
Matching a client to the proper island is pivotal in creating a successful Hawaii vacation experience. Considering logistics, maximizing your time, and sourcing the best under-the-radar experiences are perfect examples of what advisors do when crafting the perfect island getaway.
